Plastic Gear Design
Designing plastic gears and parts require some considerations. In many cases knowledge of plastic material properties and selections such as temperature, shrinkage, and wear are some important aspects of producing quality parts. The importance in material selection is to achieve the low cost while meeting the requirements of the injection molding process and conditions in loading and component fabrication during the product life cycle. The dimensional quality of plastic parts is also influenced by the production lot consistency and the processing characteristics of the raw material. Other considerations in gear analysis, mold preparation, and injection production cycle time also need to be considered in the design process.
